The Global Appeal of the Summer Games

The survey, conducted in 33 countries, shows a general increase in interest in the Paris Summer Games compared to Tokyo 2021. While almost 6 out of 10 people globally (57%) expressed interest in the Games, some countries showed particularly high enthusiasm. China leads the way with an impressive 86% interest, followed by Thailand (77%), Indonesia (75%), and the Philippines (72%). Although interest in the host country, France, is more moderate (44%), it still represents a significant increase since 2021.

Football Dominates the Games Stage

While some might not consider it a traditional sport at this global competition, football is positioned as the most anticipated event, with 28% of respondents expressing interest in following the matches. Athletics follows closely behind with 26%, while gymnastics ranks third with 20%. It is interesting to note that interest in football is especially high in Latin America, with Argentina (55%), Peru (50%), and Colombia (47%) leading the way.

A Spirit of Unity and National Pride

Beyond the interest in sports competitions, the survey reveals that the Summer Games are perceived as a unifying event. 75% of respondents globally believe that the Summer Games represent an important opportunity for global unity, while 72% believe it brings their own country together. In addition, 78% say that the Paris Summer Games make them proud of their country.

Overcoming Global Challenges

Despite global concerns such as the economic crisis, international conflicts - such as the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East - and the climate crisis, 7 out of 10 people surveyed (72%) globally are in favour of holding the Summer Games. This majority believes that neither the economic situation, nor the armed conflicts, nor the climate impact generated by flights and the construction necessary for the event, should prevent the holding of this sports festival.

In short, the survey reveals a positive outlook on the global perception of the 2024 Summer Games in France. Despite the challenges, the sporting spirit prevails, generating enthusiasm, unity, and pride throughout the world.
