Who is the True Champion of DC and Marvel Superheroes?

The worlds of DC and Marvel have captured the imagination of generations with their powerful heroes and legendary teams. These universes have brought to life iconic characters who continue to inspire millions of fans around the globe. But when it comes to popularity, who stands out as the true champion among individual heroes and superhero teams? 

We asked Ipsos iSay visitors and members in Europe and North America, and here is what they had to say.

Which Marvel Team Would You Join?

Imagine getting the call to join a superhero team for your very first mission. Which Marvel group would you choose? 

For many of our Question of the Day (QOTD) poll voters, the answer is clear: the Avengers. With legendary heroes like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America in their ranks, the team leads the survey with 29.7% of the vote. 

The Guardians of the Galaxy follow with 18.1%, proving that their mix of humour, action, and cosmic adventure continues to win over audiences. The X-Men also remain popular, with 15.9% of respondents choosing the iconic mutant team. 

At the same time, nearly a quarter of respondents say they have no clear preference, showing that the Marvel universe offers plenty of exciting possibilities.

  2. Guardians of the Galaxy - 18.1%
  3. X-Men - 15.9%
  4. The Fantastic Four - 11.4%

How Often Do Fans Watch Superhero Movies? 

Superhero movies have dominated the global box office for more than a decade. But how often do fans actually watch them? 

According to Ipsos iSay visitors and members, the most common answer is “sometimes,” chosen by 38.5% of respondents. Meanwhile, a significant number of fans watch superhero movies frequently, with 21.2% saying they watch them often and 8.9% saying they always do. 

On the other hand, some participants rarely tune in. About 31% say they almost never or never watch superhero films at all, highlighting how viewing habits can vary widely.

Marvel or DC: Which Universe Wins?

The Marvel versus DC debate has been ongoing for decades. Both comic book universes have introduced legendary heroes, epic storylines, and memorable films. 

When asked which they prefer, Marvel leads with 41.3% of the vote. Its interconnected movie universe and large cast of characters continue to resonate strongly with audiences. 

However, many fans enjoy both worlds equally. In fact, 21% of respondents say they appreciate both Marvel and DC. 

Interestingly, nearly one third of participants say they prefer neither universe, showing that superhero entertainment, while hugely popular, is not everyone’s favourite genre.

The Most Iconic Superman on the Big Screen 

Superman is one of the most recognisable superheroes in history. Over the decades, several actors have taken on the role, each bringing their own interpretation to the legendary character. 

According to Ipsos iSay visitors and members, one portrayal clearly stands above the rest. Christopher Reeve received 64.5% of the vote, confirming his enduring legacy as the Superman many fans remember most fondly. 

Henry Cavill follows with 25%, reflecting the strong impact of his modern version of the character. Brandon Routh and other actors received smaller shares of the vote.

  1. Christopher Reeve - 64.5%
  2. Henry Cavill - 25%
  3. Brandon Routh - 4%
  4. Someone else - 6.6% 

Conclusion: Superheroes Still Capture Our Imagination

These results highlight the lasting influence of superhero stories in popular culture. Whether it is choosing a team to join, watching the latest blockbuster movie, or debating the best actor to portray Superman, fans continue to engage passionately with these legendary characters.
