The Real Cost of Happiness: Insights from Ipsos iSay visitors

Have you ever paused to ask yourself what the price of your peace of mind really is? Not in motivational quotes, but in hours spent at work, sleepless nights, and “yes” answers when you wanted to say “no”.

A simple calculation shows that the 24 hours in a day often get divided into survival mode:

  • 8 hours for sleep
  • 8 hours for work and responsibilities
  • 3 hours for meals and commuting

Leaving a mere 5 hours theoretically for yourself.

So, what do you “buy” with those precious hours? Do you use them to unwind and recharge for the day ahead? Do you reflect on what you accomplished and feel excited about what's to come? Do you take a moment to do something just for yourself?

Ipsos iSay website visitors prove shows that burnout is a common reality across Europe: 39.2% of respondents reported experiencing burnout multiple times*, while another 28.2% had experienced it once or twice*. Even more worryingly, 7.5% feel they are close to burnout*.

Self-Care: The Key to Reclaiming Your Time

Our Ipsos iSay web poll also revealed the activities that Europeans turn to for self-care:

  • 32.6% go for walks or exercise outdoors
  • 12.6% connect with friends or family
  • 11.4% dedicate time to personal hobbies
  • 9.4% listen to music or play an instrument
  • 8% read or listen to audiobooks
  • 7.6% engage in creative activities

Mindfulness and meditation also play a role, though less consistently: 16.5% practice daily, 17% several times a week, and 44.7% only occasionally*.

“Even ten minutes of mindful breathing makes me feel I’ve reclaimed a bit of my day for myself.” (Mark, 45)
