But beyond the glitz, it's the films and the talent that truly steal the show.
Best Picture Predictions
This past year has brought us an amazing array of films spanning many genres. Movie fans can choose between the intense dramas of The Brutalist and Conclave, or the musical delights of Wicked and Emilia Pérez. There’s also the mesmerizing sci-fi epic of Dune: Part Two, or the biopic A Complete Unknown, celebrating the music of Bob Dylan. There’s even The Substance, perfect for fans of horror. The competition for Best Picture is fierce!
Although many of the contenders for Best Picture are drama or music-driven films, the favourite genres among the Canadian Ipsos iSay community are actually Action/Thriller (24%) and Comedy (21%). So, which film do Ipsos iSay members believe will win Best Picture?
Leading the pack is the enchanting musical Wicked, with a third (33%) of the vote. Following behind are Dune: Part Two (17%) and A Complete Unknown (11%) – interestingly, both starring Timothée Chalamet. Could he be a favourite for Best Actor?
Best Actor and Best Actress Predictions
Exceptional films are brought to life by extraordinary performances. For Best Actor, our community's votes were tightly split. Adrien Brody in The Brutalist holds a slight edge (29%). Close contenders, also with about a quarter of the vote each, include Timothée Chalamet in A Complete Unknown (28%) and Sebastian Stan in The Apprentice (23%).
In contrast, the Ipsos iSay community’s pick for the Best Actress category sees a more decisive leader. About two in five (41%) of our members and visitors predict that Demi Moore’s performance in The Substance will take the Oscar. Hot on her heels (and with broomstick in hand) is Cynthia Erivo, who garnered about a third of the vote (36%) for her role in Wicked.
Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress Predictions
The supporting roles often provide the emotional backbone of a film, and this year is no exception. For Best Supporting Actor, Ipsos iSay voters are once again split. Edward Norton in A Complete Unknown is the top choice with 29%. Jeremy Strong in The Apprentice (25%) and Kieran Culkin in A Real Pain (23%) are also strong contenders, according to Canadians on Ipsos iSay.
Meanwhile, for Best Supporting Actress, the consensus is clear. Remarkably, half of our community members (50%) are rooting for Ariana Grande's vocal prowess in Wicked to earn her the Oscar.
