A strong 41% of Ipsos iSay respondents say they enjoy doing DIY home projects. These are the folks who love sanding furniture, hanging curtain rods, or tackling accent wall ideas with confidence.
Occasional Creators
Another 45% say they do DIY occasionally. They may take on a backsplash project, repaint a powder room, or fix a light switch when needed. It’s a hands-on way to stay connected to your space.
This growing interest in home personalization also aligns with lifestyle shifts tied to office vs. home vs. hybrid work, where people are reimagining their living environments to better support remote productivity and comfort.
A Small Group Opts Out
Only 14% of respondents say they don’t enjoy DIY. While it’s not everyone’s go-to pastime, the majority find satisfaction in rolling up their sleeves and getting to work, no matter their skill level.

Friends and family inspire 53% of DIYers. Whether it’s passing down tips for choosing paint colors or offering help with drywall repairs, personal advice still goes a long way.
Social Media Communities
About 37% turn to DIY-focused groups on social media platforms like Facebook and Reddit. These spaces are full of home depot tips, budget tricks, and walkthroughs on using materials like plywood or caulk.

Home improvement shows spark ideas for 30% of respondents. Regardless of whether it’s learning how to refresh a vanity or redesign a laundry room, seeing transformations in real time helps bring big ideas to life.

The top project? Painting a room. Nearly half of the respondents (48%) have added a fresh coat of paint to walls, giving their home an instant refresh. If you are trying out new wall paint in the living room or updating a powder room with bold wallpaper, painting remains a classic upgrade.

Gardening came in close behind, with 44% planting something new. Adding greenery and new plants improves curb appeal and brings color and calm to any space, especially for homeowners with a front porch or walkway to enhance.

From arts and crafts (36%) to homemade decorations (33%), smaller home DIY projects are also popular. These easy DIY upgrades often require little more than scrap wood, spray paint, or a few items from the thrift store.

From making labels or tags (32%) to creating wall organizers (31%), easy organization wins big. These hacks bring order to cluttered drawers, messy entryways, and even the home office.
Smart Storage Solutions
